The Game AI Wiki, Coming Soon

Alex J. Champandard on June 28, 2008

Many of you have requested a specialized wiki where the community could catalog research papers, write down solutions to common problems, and collect libraries and tools specific to game AI. There are a few more details to get right before we open the doors, but if you’d like to help add some quality content let us know! (There are even some prizes involved.)

I’m happy to add anything of significance I find to the Wiki. I think there is a ton of stuff out there that needs gathering. BTW: It might be useful to think of some form of link checking system. Nothing worse than seeing broken links. Either slurp them up to a server, or have some method of flagging broken links (either user based, or automated). It might be useful to get “section editors” for the wiki, if thats possible. So people with a given interest can work on fleshing out particular areas.

Broken links are a problem. Might be a good idea to have a report function on each page which emails the wiki admins or section editor. Making local copies of the PDF's, pages and articles that are linked to are a good idea. I think certainly PDF's are the hardest to get back, and could be added as file attachments with credit too.

I added a couple papers already, and made a point of uploading the original documents too. I tried to also insert them into online PDF sites like Scribd, but people have very strong feelings about those... One advantage of using a customizable wiki is that it's easy to write scripts for, so checking links is rather trivial -- in theory :-) Alex

Yeah, a lot of 404 error pages resolve to some standard (usually university when it comes to papers) page, making it look like they still exist, heh. A report function for general wrong things might be nice in any case, as long as it can be made spam proof.
